- Title
- Independent confirmation of transient diamagnetism in driven YBa2Cu3O6.48
- Plain
- In 2024 a group reported that light-driven YBa2Cu3O6.48 briefly pushes out magnetic field, as a superconductor does. Independent reproduction and other explanations are under discussion.
- Precise
- Fava et al. (Nature 2024) reported a transient diamagnetic response of about 30 percent of complete expulsion after mid-infrared excitation of YBa2Cu3O6.48 above its equilibrium $T_{c}$, measured by Faraday rotation in an adjacent magneto-optic layer. Does an independent measurement with a different probe reproduce the effect, and can non-superconducting mechanisms (photoinduced magnetization changes, thermal or eddy-current effects) be excluded? Answer yes or no.
- Settled by
- Reproduction by an independent group with a second probe (e.g. nitrogen-vacancy magnetometry or pickup loops) plus control experiments excluding non-superconducting magnetization.
