Can electroweak baryogenesis survive the electron EDM bound?
In plain words
The asymmetry could have formed when the Higgs field switched on, but that needs new CP-violating forces near the weak scale. Such forces would also give the electron a tiny electric dipole, which has not been seen.
Precise statement
Determine whether any model with a strongly first-order electroweak transition and CP violation sufficient for $\eta_B \sim 6e-10$ is consistent with |d_e| < 4.1e-30 e cm (JILA, 2023) and LHC Higgs data. An answer is an explicit viable model with predicted signals, or a general exclusion argument.
What would settle it
Next-generation electron EDM measurements (sensitivity $\sim 1e-31\,e\,\mathrm{cm}$) combined with Higgs self-coupling and singlet-mixing measurements.
Status in the literature
Most minimal two-Higgs-doublet realizations are excluded by EDMs; models with CP violation in a dark or flavored sector remain.
