Real-time tissue thermometry without magnetic resonance
In plain words
Heating treatments need to know the temperature at the focus as it rises, which today requires an expensive magnetic resonance scanner.
Precise statement
Measure tissue temperature during focused ultrasound heating to an accuracy of 1 K with a spatial resolution of 2 mm and an update rate above 1 Hz, in fat-containing and moving tissue, using acoustic observables such as speed-of-sound shift, thermal strain, or backscatter change. An answer is a demonstrated technique meeting these figures against an independent temperature reference.
What would settle it
Comparison with embedded thermometry or magnetic resonance thermometry in tissue phantoms and in vivo during heating.
