Lorentz and CPT symmetry tests with atoms and antimatter
Physics is believed to look the same in every direction and at every speed, and antimatter is believed to be an exact mirror image of matter. Precision measurements on atoms, antihydrogen and trapped antiprotons test both ideas.
Why it matters
Any violation would signal physics beyond quantum field theory, possibly from quantum gravity, and atomic systems reach sensitivity to effects suppressed by the Planck scale.
